ENGLISH LITERATURE

In Grade 8, English Literature a subject in school is introduced through a wide variety of texts used for evidences for instances, textbooks, novels, short stories, historical written by authors, and non fiction. Students focus on developing their own personal skills such as reading comprehensions, being able to find main ideas of a story, having connections with the texts, and overall being able to understand the themes of whatever’s being read. English Literature is usually always connected to something historical related of time periods from either the Middle Ages or Renaissance, helping students get an understanding of our surroundings and cultures.

In Grades 9 and 10, English Literature becomes more complex as there are slight changes with the class arrangements from Grade 8. In these classes, students continue to use a variety of forms from texts to help strengthen their knowledge. The courses at Palmer Secondary School such as Composition and Spoken Language and Literary Studies allows students to explore more areas allowing them to build on their ideas and use supporting ideas to express their ideas with the help of texts. Communication and confidence is built on overtime learning these topics.

CONCLUSION

Overall, English Literature supports students in developing the skills needed of communication, literacy, and overall critical thinking throughout their education. As the students move from Grade 8 all the way to Grade 12, they gain the confidence and ability to use their expressions fluently. English Literature is a course where it encourages students of continuing to build these personal skills as it is important in life someday.

The first novel written on a typewriter was "Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain

In Grades 11 and 12, English Literature focuses on advanced reading comprehensions and skills. These courses in these levels are important as these grade 12s are preparing for post secondary and any potential career
