In Grade 8, English Literature introduces students to quite a variety of forms of texts to help them comprehend in building strong reading/writing skills. Students read lots of novels, non fiction, historical texts written by authentic authors, and poems as their evidence supporting ideas to help with understanding important topics. This course in this level at Palmer Secondary focuses on the improvement of reading while helping students explain their ideas clearly and thoughtfully.

In Grades 9 and 10, English Literature is continued to be detailed while focusing on students goals and strengths of thinking and expressive skills. In these levels, students read more of an expanded range including poetry, fiction, non fiction, and even drama. Teachers are expected of students to strengthen specific goals in writing for students through the use of essays, paragraph writing and more.

CONCLUSION
Overall, English Literature teaches to help students grow mentally as learners about their reading and writing skills throughout their years of high school. From going and learning about just the basic knowledge of what the course covers in Grade 8 to being able to anaylyze data at an advanced level is helpful as the abilities are useful for any post secondary career.

These students are expected to be able to read precisely while thinking deeply and writing with clear grammar. With the course exploring areas of identity and culture, they learn how these can influence how our society is shaped overall.
